Kids

I remember the night you told me ..that a child was on the way
I never thought I'd be a daddy. I don't know what to say
Having kids well that's for others... that's what other people do
I don't understand why God picked me and you

But each night when I lay them down to sleep
And they reach out to touch me I pray to God theyre mine to keep
I hope the night wont steal them while I sleep

Watching kids grow up and older. well it seems like yesterday
They were nursing from they're momma... but that long since passed away
Now they're playing ball and fighting... the way that we all used to do
I guess to every season turn is really true

But each night when I lay them down to sleep
And they reach out to touch me I pray to God they're mine to keep
I hope the night won't steal them while I sleep

It seems that moms and daddys... somehow let things get in the way
Newer cars and bigger houses... they don't matter any way
And the price of loves not measured by the toys on Christmas eve
But in the time we spend with kids before they leave

And each night when I lay them down to sleep
And they reach out to touch me... I pray to God they're mine to keep
But if the night should come and steal them while I sleep.
I pray to God their soul forever keep.
